Experts and leaders about the Houston region’s dangerous flooding issues come together to address the problems and solution options for major rain flooding and hurricane storm surge flooding at a free, public forum at the University of Houston – Clear Lake. Millions of Houstonians and neighbors are at risk from systemic floods that have taken lives and destroyed homes.

Speakers will address critical issues and past mistakes, and present proposals for protecting Houston region and Bay Area residents from dangerous, deadly storms like Hurricane Harvey and Ike at the event hosted by the Environmental Institute at UH-CL. Questions are welcome from attendees and answers will come in the discussion.

As Harris County Judge Ed Emmett said recently, “We need to start over,” he said, “and look at everything.”

Residents across Houston and especially the Bay Area with its double-threat of flooding will learn the important issues to ensure the most effective initiatives are considered and the right investments are supported. While the government and businesses will shoulder major costs of improvements, ultimately taxpayers and customers will pay. Everyone needs to be knowledgeable and engaged to ensure a safe and prosperous future.
