Liz has been a Sierra Club volunteer for almost 30 years, including Dallas, the Southwest Region and National committees. Nature has long been an influential part of her life. From childhood explorations in the woods of northern Illinois and upper Wisconsin to boating on the upper Mississippi River, from hiking and camping during college years in Colorado to backcountry wilderness trips with Dallas Sierra Club friends, the outdoors has always been paramount for Liz who feels being in nature offers excitement, respite, and constantly shows the unending beauty and wildlife too often taken for granted.
As a member of the DSC ExCom, Liz works on issues and actions that affect the local Dallas Sierra Club and environmental issues within our community. Her goal is to do whatever she can to encourage others to get outdoors, in whatever way is enjoyable for them. Through the Sierra Club’s Inspiring Connections Outdoors (ICO) program, volunteers provide trips into nature for underserved youth so they can enjoy it now and gain an appreciation that leads to them protecting it in the future.
Whether one enjoys watching birds or climbing mountains, Liz encourages everyone to get involved with the Dallas Sierra Club. It’s so much more than a Club. It offers countless opportunities to meet wonderful people, chances to explore what nature offers, help with conservation and related political issues, learn about the world around us, and have fun! Each of us can find what’s most important and use that passion to make a difference in our community. Join us, and yes, it’s true - Liz brings chocolate to share on every outing!
