Important Notes About Outings:
-
The Robert Lunz Group of the South Carolina Chapter of the Sierra Club leads a variety of outings (listed below) both in South Carolina and other states. Activities include day hikes, backpacks, canoe trips and visits to museums. Each group also does several trail maintenance trips in South Carolina. (trips listed below)
-
Leaders and assistants are trained volunteers who work hard to make each trip a success. To sign up for an outing, please contact the leader. In order to participate in one of the Sierra Club's outings, you will need to sign a liability waiver.
-
In the interests of facilitating the logistics of some outings, it is customary that participants make carpooling arrangements. The Sierra Club does not have insurance for carpooling arrangements and assumes no liability for them. Carpooling, ride sharing or anything similar is strictly a private arrangement among the participants. Participants assume the risks associated with this travel. Transportation is not a part of the outing. However, car-pooling is encouraged. REIMBURSEMENT for drivers is recommended at a rate of 10 cents per mile per person.
-
All Sierra Club outings are open to members and non-members alike. You may sign up for outings online and by contacting the leader of the outing by phone or email. Children are welcome on most day hikes when accompanied by an adult. Contact the outing's leader to determine if the outing is appropriate for your child. Pets are not allowed unless the outing is designated as a "pets permitted outing". Firearms are not allowed.
-
Outing leaders have the final word before and during the outing they are leading and may set minimum fitness, experience and/or equipment requirements for their trip and may screen applicants accordingly. Contact the outing leader for any questions about a particular outing.
- Beginning March 1, 2022, we reinstated the optional contribution for Sierra Club outings participants. Suggested amounts are $5 for a day trip and $10 for an overnight trip. Please note: these donations do not go to the trip leaders, who volunteer their time, but to our Lunz Group operating fund to support our environmental mission.
