Sandy Smith-Nonini
Sandy Smith-Nonini, PhD, is a former (and recurring) journalist and adjunct assistant professor of anthropology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is writing a book on energy crises forthcoming with Routledge Press (2024). She did research projects on fossil fuel dependence in Puerto Rico and Greece and co-produced the film Dis.em.POWER.ed: Puerto Rico’s Perfect Storm (2020) on the longest blackout in US history. She authored Healing the Body Politic: El Salvador’s Popular Struggle for Health Rights – From Civil War to Neoliberal Peace, (2010). Sandy is a recipient of the Richard Carley Hunt Award, the Peter K. New Prize for applied anthropology, and the Peter Lisagor Award for reporting. Her articles can be found on ResearchGate.
