Military Outdoors Survey and Listening Sessions
Sierra Club Military Outdoors is organizing a series of listening sessions and an online survey for veterans and the military community across the country.
We want veterans and the military community to explore, enjoy, and heal in our nation’s parks and other public lands and waters. Help us identify existing barriers that prevent them from experiencing the healing benefits of time spent outdoors.
Background
Sierra Club Military Outdoors wants to elevate the voices of veteran and military community members and the challenges they face accessing safe green spaces for their well-being.
We are doing this in partnership with our local chapters and national organizational partners to proactively generate recommendations for the VA Task Force on Outdoor Recreation for Veterans that can have lasting positive impacts on the military community as a whole. These recommendations will provide crucial insight to informing federal, state, and local policy initiatives in addressing inequitable access to nature and its benefits.
How to get involved
1. Stay in the loop
Sign up for Sierra Club Military Outdoors updates here!
2. Are you a veteran? Take our survey!
Fill out our online survey to help us gather needed information for our report. We need to hear from as many veteran and military community members as possible by April to generate our publicly available report.
3. Attend a listening session
We are hosting listening sessions in numerous locations around the country. For each listening session, we are working with local veteran-focused organizations and connecting with the local veteran and military community.
Our goal is to inspire veterans and servicemembers from underrepresented and underserved communities to participate in positive and productive discussions. We want them to share their expertise, ideas, and examples that will inform federal, state, and local policy initiatives in addressing inequitable access for veterans and servicemembers to nature and its benefits.
More listening sessions are planned for Minnesota in 2024. Check back here for RSVP links!
