Los Serranos member and current chair, Brian Elliott, along with five friends, completed a 24 day, 395 mile self-supported canoe trip this past August on the Horton River in the Northwest Territory of Canada. Brian and five companions planned and executed the trip. They saw 12 grizzlies, nearly a hundred caribou, one moose, only a few mosquitos, 15-20 beluga whales from an Arctic Ocean overlook, caught Arctic Grayling (fish) for dinner, did about 250,000 paddle strokes, hiked in the Smoking Hills, and finished about 1/4 mile from the Arctic Ocean. The weather ranged from absolutely wonderful to downright miserable on a few occasions. Temperatures ranged from the mid 70s to the low 40s. The group didn't see any other people on the river! And only one human footprint was spotted on the entire trip. Brian and his friends had a great experience and a fine adventure on the remote Horton River! Brian will share photos and videos from his trip and discuss wilderness travel.
