Sprog!
Sprog (for Summer PROGram), is a grassroots leadership training program conducted by the Sierra Club’s Student Coalition"Sprog".
Chantal Biancardi and Tracey Walters, two young and inspiring local activists will share their empowering experiences at Sierra Club's Sprog this past summer. Our meeting program begins at 7:30 PM Tuesday, November 4, at the San Bernardino County Museum, 2024 Orange Tree Lane, Redlands.
Chantal is a political science major and Senate Pro Tempore at Riverside Community College. She is currently starting a campus environmental club and plans to attend UCLA next fall to become an environmental attorney. She says that it was her experiences at Sprog that led her to set these goals.
Tracey lives in Upland and attends UC Riverside, where she is co-president of Sustainable UCR, the campus environmental club, and a leader in several other organizations, including the UCR Community Garden and the Medical Scholars Program. Tracey tells us, “Sprog is an amazing program that brings a really diverse group of youth together to learn and grow together to support environmental goals in our community, the range of participants really blew my mind. From a 13 year old activist to a 23 year old student leader, this group had so many valuable and enriching perspectives to add to the learning process!”
A nationally recognized activist training program, Sprog provides its trainees with “a unique space to get the tools they need to launch and lead campaigns that win real change, connects them to a supportive network of passionate peers, teaches them how to confront oppression and create inclusive spaces for people of all backgrounds to succeed in their work, and helps them to develop their personal potentials as leaders."
Each summer about 200 young people attend Sprog trainings in every region of the country. This last summer’s Sprog in Southern California was held at the Sierra Club’s Harwood Lodge near San Antonio Falls above Mt. Baldy Village.
