Defending Walkable and Rail-Friendly Santa Rosa
The Sierra Club and other citizen groups are joining the City of Santa Rosa in an urgent call to approve an at-grade crossing with warning bells and gates so that pedestrians and bicycles can safely cross the SMART train tracks at Jennings Avenue (near Coddingtown). We need your help to convince the California Public Utilities Commission to allow the at-grade crossing to be built at as soon as possible, and to take down the fences that now block the crossing.
The California Public Utilities Commission will have a public hearing at:
7 pm, Monday, Feb. 1 at Helen Lehman School in Santa Rosa:
1700 Jennings Avenue (between Guerneville Rd. & College Ave. west of Dutton Ave).
Many bicyclists and pedestrians in the neighborhood cross the tracks at Jennings Avenue because there is no other convenient way to reach Coddingtown shops or businesses along Dutton Avenue. The state recently closed the unofficial rail crossing because SMART rail cars are now being tested on the tracks. But now people are scaling the new cyclone fences. If warning signals and gates are not provided, the area will become more dangerous than before.
To make the tracks at Jennings Avenue safe again with a permanent at-grade crossing, we urge you to join us at the public hearing.
If you can’t attend the hearing, please send an email to:
