Redwood Chapter had a busy year of building coalitions, working with legislators on environmental goals and meeting with members of the community. The October wildfires were a hugely devastating event that affected members in four counties in our region. With other local groups, we launched a fund to help the most vulnerable in our communities, and started a conversation about the resilience of our fire-prone landscape and rethinking development in risky areas. Our biggest challenges remain a lack of concern for the environment by the Trump administration, but we know we have a commitment from our members and environmentalists across the country to block as many destructive policies as possible. We will continue working in 2018 to promote environmental stewardship, outdoor activities and education, smart planning and growth and act to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The slideshow above presents some highlights from 2017.
