The campaign for the permanent protection of the Berryessa Snow Mountain region took a big leap forward to day when Senators Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein introduced legislation (S. 393) designating 360,100 acres of federal public land in the region as a National Monument. Congressman Mike Thompson also introduced companion legislation in the House (HR 761), co-sponsored by Congressmen John Garamendi and Jared Huffman. The effort to protect this very special place has been a top Redwood Chapter priority for a number of years, and the introduction of these bills follows years of grassroots work culminating in an exciting Town Hall meeting with Secretary Sally Jewell late in December.
