WASHINGTON, DC (May 25) -- Today, a coalition of conservation groups and others announced that a historic number of comments and petitions of support have been submitted to the Department of the Interior in support of Bears Ears National Monument.  Despite the entirely inadequate 15-day period ending on May 26th provided for comments, more than 685,000 comments in support of Bears Ears National Monument have been collected.

Charleston, WV-- Today, a coalition of environmental groups filed a federal suit to challenge the discharge of pollutants from mountaintop removal coal mine sites currently operated by the Fola Coal Company in West Virginia. This is the second time that legal action has been taken against Fola for water pollution at this site. Fola’s parent company, Consol, recently paid Southeastern Energy to take ownership of the mine because the reclamation and treatment liabilities were too high.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, the Department of Justice filed a civil complaint against Fiat Chrysler for installing emissions cheating devices on 104,000 diesel vehicles that led to increased air pollution emissions. On January 12, 2017 the Environmental Protection Agency, under the Obama administration, announced findings of Fiat Chrysler’s emissions cheating devices.

The Sierra Club Board of Directors elected Loren Blackford of New York as the new board president.  Aaron Mair, immediate past president of the board, reached his term limit this year.
