The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) rejected New York’s request for a rehearing and stay of FERC’s September 15, 2017 Declaratory Order, which found that New York waived its authority to issue a water quality certification for the Valley Lateral Project. Simultaneously, FERC denied New York’s Request for Stay of the Notice to Proceed.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Sierra Club launched a new video advertising campaign today against Secretary of Energy Rick Perry’s directive to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) that will force millions of Americans to pay billions of dollars to prop up old, uneconomic coal and nuclear plants.

The Sierra Club released a comprehensive map of gas pipeline projects across the United States. The interactive map allows users to see how close their homes, schools, daycare centers, nursing homes and hospitals are to gas pipelines, including whether or not they fall in the blast zone or evacuation zone.

BONN, GERMANY -- Today, Canada and the UK announced the Powering Past Coal Alliance in partnership with 25 other governments from around the world. The alliance -- comprised of Alberta, Angola, Austria, Belgium, British Columbia, Canada, Costa Rica, Denmark, El Salvador, Fiji, Finland, France, Italy, Luxembourg, Marshall Islands, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Niue, Ontario, Oregon, Portugal, Quebec, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Vancouver, and Washington state -- has announced the goal of moving OECD countries beyond coal by 2030 and by 2050 for the rest of the world. Their aim is to have 50 members by the 2018 UN climate negotiations and will be open for businesses to join.

The North Carolina Utilities Commission (NCUC) filed a rehearing request yesterday with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to challenge the Atlantic Coast Pipeline’s (ACP) guaranteed 14% return on equity. The rehearing request comes as the Sierra Club and watchdog groups have been raising concerns over the lack of necessity for these pipelines, as well as the fact that ratepayers could be on the hook to pay for them.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee passed a bill essentially removing the sensitive coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge from the refuge system, opening the entire 1.5 million acres to drilling. The bill ignores the importance of the area to the Gwich’in Nation, as well as a host of environmental safeguards, and cost realities that make raising the estimated revenue from drilling in the Arctic Refuge nearly impossible.

Repealing the mandate would unravel the U.S. health insurance systems’ individual markets, causing millions of Americans to lose their insurance coverage and raising premiums for millions more.

JACKSON, WY -- The Wyoming Game and Fish Department will hold a public meeting tonight in Jackson to gather input on how grizzly bears should be managed in the state. The meeting is one of several being held by the Department. Additional meetings are planned including one in Pinedale tomorrow, and other locations in late November/December. Wyoming joined Montana and Idaho in taking over management of grizzly bears in the Greater Yellowstone region following the animal's removal from the Endangered Species list this summer.
