The Act would permanently codify the Roadless Rule, which safeguards 58.5 million acres of pristine National Forest System lands across 39 states from logging and road building. Despite the Roadless Rule’s many successes and the millions of taxpayer dollars it saves, there have been multiple Congressional attempts to strip Roadless Rule protections from millions of acres of public lands.

Unlike the bill in the House of Representatives, in which House Republican leadership included new anti-environmental poison pill policy riders alongside budget cuts, the Senate bill emerged in a much stronger and healthier position. Senators have united to fund protections for our children’s health and the great American outdoors, rejecting the severe cuts and poison policy riders Trump and House Republican leadership keeps pushing for.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, at his hearing before the Senate Environment and Public Works committee, acting EPA administrator Andrew Wheeler confirmed that he will continue Donald Trump and former EPA administrator Scott Pruitt’s attacks on clean air, clean water, and climate action. Wheeler did not mention any new safeguards or actions that will further reduce air or water pollution, but he did mention several rollbacks that will increase pollution. Wheeler has already rolled back protections from coal ash.
