WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The House Natural Resources Subcommittee on Water, Oceans, and Wildlife today held a hearing on the Tribal Heritage and Grizzly Bear Protection Act. Introduced by Rep. Grijalva, the bill would protect grizzly bears at a time when hostile state management and federal proposals, climate change and shifting food sources threaten their continued recovery. Grizzly bears are sacred to many Tribal Nations and as a top predator, play a vital role in balancing natural systems.

Tribal leaders today testified before the House Natural Resources Subcommittee on Water, Oceans, and Wildlife in support of the Tribal Heritage and Grizzly Bear Protection Act. As noted by Lynnette Grey Bull, Senior Vice President of Global Indigenous Council and spokesperson for the Northern Arapaho Elders Society of the Wind River Indian Reservation, the Act is based on The Grizzly: A treaty of Cooperation, Cultural Revitalization and Restoration. It is the most signed treaty in history.

Washington, DC-- Today. the House of Representatives Energy and Commerce committee heard testimony on a suite of new bills that would protect Americans at risk of PFAS contamination. More than 20 bills have been introduced recently to study the extent of water pollution, require the Environmental Protection Agency ( EPA) to take action on PFAS emissions, and speed the provision of clean water for communities and agricultural producers impacted by PFAS.

Washington, DC-- Today, the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Public Lands, Forests and Mining held a hearing on several public lands bills, including the Ruby Mountains Protection Act. Sen. Cortez Masto’s legislation would permanently prohibit oil and gas leasing anywhere within the Ruby Mountains’ Ranger District of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. The bill marks the first piece of federal legislation to safeguard the Rubies permanently-- a landscape that has been consistently under threat from the Trump administration’s oil and gas lease sales.

Washington, DC -- Today, legislation was introduced in the House of Representatives that would restore commonsense safeguards, currently under attack by the Trump administration, that limit methane pollution from the oil and gas industry. Methane is a greenhouse gas that is 87 times more potent than carbon dioxide during the time it remains in the atmosphere.

The “Methane Waste Prevention Act of 2019” was introduced by Representative Diana DeGette, along with Representatives Raul Grijalva, Ben Ray Luján, Deb Haaland, and Alan Lowenthal.
