WASHINGTON, D.C.-- Today, the inaugural Global Grassroots Leaders Climate Summit came to a close after three days of grassroots leaders, representing 30 organizations from 17 countries, convening to discuss the climate issues in their communities and elevate their demands for the US Government and its institutions. During the summit, leaders had a chance to meet with the Senior Advisor to the Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, John Kerry, the Development Finance Corporation, the US Treasury Department, and the US Export-Import Bank. Grassroots Leaders also participated in public facing webinars elevating asks on immediately halting US overseas fossil fuel finance, shutting down coal, and encouraging renewable energy finance and just transition.

June 3, 2021 – Trans Mountain insurer and Lloyd’s of London syndicate Argo Group has pledged to cut ties with the existing Trans Mountain tar sands pipeline when its current insurance policy expires on August 31, 2021, and to not insure the Trans Mountain Expansion Project.

The National Board of Directors is democratically elected by the organization’s membership and serves its 3.8 million members and supporters.

On May 31, negotiations on a groundbreaking climate bill for Illinois broke down after Illinois’ largest climate polluter, the Prairie State Energy Campus (PSEC) coal plant, demanded a total exemption from pollution limits that would apply to Illinois fossil fuel power plants. PSEC is the single largest carbon polluter in Illinois, and the seventh largest carbon emitting power plant in the United States.

The grassroots leaders, representing more than 30 organizations from 17 countries, will convene today-Friday to discuss the climate issues in their communities and elevate their demands for the US Government and its institutions. Too often, grassroots leaders are left out of the climate conversation and do not have a seat at the table; the goal of this summit is to bring attention to the voices and asks of the global grassroots leaders who were not present during the April 22 Climate Summit.

WASHINGTON, DC -- Today, President Joe Biden officially declared June 2021 as “Great Outdoors Month.” The annual recognition began in 1998 and has since expanded into a month-long celebration of America’s outdoors. This year’s celebration comes with the additional recognition of the importance of the outdoors in promoting mental and physical health and protecting the outdoors and our landscapes as we work to address the climate crisis and the extinction crisis.

WEC Energy Group is proposing to charge customers $370 million plus interest, totaling more than $460 million, to build storage tanks to store extra fossil gas, in case they need it on cold days in the winter. WEC’s proposal assumes increasing use of fossil gas, year over year, infinitely.
