NEW YORK – NRG-owned Astoria Gas Turbine Power and Beacon Wind filed a joint petition with the New York State Public Service Commission yesterday seeking approval of a sale transferring ownership of the land under the existing gas-powered peaker plant to Beacon Wind for electrical interconnection to their 1,230 MW wind project.
Harrisburg, PA - Today, the Sierra Club and Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) filed a petition for a declaratory order urging the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to maintain oversight over the Fortress liquefied natural gas (LNG) export project. Deep South Center for Environmental Justice, Healthy Gulf and Sierra Club filed a petition to the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources to require a Coastal Use Permit for the fracked gas export terminal Plaquemines LNG that is under construction in Southern Louisiana. The organizations detail many issues with the plant, including the negative impacts that it will have on Black and Indigenous communities, the destruction of disappearing and vulnerable wetlands, and the fact that it is being built in an active hurricane zone prone to severe flooding.
Yesterday, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approved the Mountain Valley Pipeline’s request for four more years to build the pipeline, making this the second time that MVP has requested and received an extension of their certificate.
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) announced a six-month delay for CP2 and CP Express, a fracked gas export terminal and its associated pipeline project proposed for construction in Southwest Louisiana. FERC aimed to have the final environmental impact statement (EIS) for the facility done by February of next year. It now plans to issue a final EIS by July 28, 2023.
WASHINGTON, DC – DC Mayor Muriel Bowser signed groundbreaking legislation to transition new buildings and DC government operations off fossil fuels.
Mayor Bowser signed into law the Clean Energy DC Building Code Act, requiring that by 2026, all new buildings in DC are net-zero energy and produce the energy they use on-site from renewable sources. The bill expressly prohibits the combustion of dirty fuels in buildings, including fracked gas and fossil gas alternatives from sources like animal manure.
