MONTGOMERY, AL -- On Monday, the Sierra Club asked the Alabama Public Service Commission (PSC) to reconsider a billion-dollar Southern Company fracked gas proposal, citing secret negotiations that the company and its subsidiary Alabama Power kept from the Commission and other parties. Sierra Club’s filing also raised a First Amendment claim against the PSC’s “media coverage plan,” which prevented public communication about the contested issues in this case.

Kinder Morgan CEO Steve Kean announced yesterday that the company plans to reroute the controversial Permian Highway fracked gas pipeline to go around the Blanco River, in response to public outrage over a spill during pipeline construction, the impacts of which Kinder Morgan has repeatedly downplayed, that left Blanco County residents without clean drinking water.
NC DEQ rejected the Mountain Valley Pipeline’s efforts to extend into North Carolina
Duluth, MN -- Sierra Club members and communities from around the Twin Ports are voicing their opposition to a proposed fracked gas power plant in Superior, Wisconsin. Investor-owned utilities Dairyland Power (WI) and Minnesota Power (MN) are seeking permission to build the plant and must receive approval from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Right now, the Wisconsin DNR is reviewing the utilities’ request for an air permit.
