This report details a plan by Senate Democrats to address the climate crisis by reaching a goal of net-zero emissions by 2050, as well as increased climate investments in disadvantaged and vulnerable communities. The report was produced without any engagement from Senate Republicans.

Diane Feinstein (D-Calif.) and Steve Daines (R-Mont.) introduced legislation yesterday that would fast-track unsustainable logging, increase wildfire risk and jeopardize community safety. The measure stands in stark contrast to sensible, science-based legislation sponsored by Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), which would help communities in fire-prone areas without backcountry logging.

Washington, DC -- Today, the House of Representatives passed H.R.7617, The Fiscal Year 2021 Minibus II, which provides $210 billion in emergency funding to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, invests in the clean energy industry, and provides funding for vote by mail. The bill also will prohibit the Army Corps of Engineers from finalizing its Record of Decision for the Pebble Mine in Bristol Bay, Alaska.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- At an oversight hearing today the House Natural Resources Committee pushed for answers on last month’s violent attack on peaceful protestors at Lafayette Square by U.S. Park Police with tear gas, batons, and riot shields. The hearing comes as demonstrations against police brutality are being met with police violence, including “preemptive arrests” and the abduction of demonstrators by unmarked police vehicles, fueled by the deployment of Department of Homeland Security (DHS) forces. Trump announced plans for a surge of federal security forces last week, threatening to unleash the type of excessive force that has led to the current violence in Portland to a host of other cities, including Chicago, New York, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Detroit. DHS forces have long used similar militarized and politicized tactics against communities along the southern border, targeting immigrants and activists.

The House today passed the FY2021 Minibus 1. The bill increases funding for the U.S. Department of the Interior and the Environmental Protection Agency and includes provisions to protect and prioritize public health, while supporting environmental programs to address climate change,safeguard clean water and invest in green infrastructure. Also included are specific provisions for fighting racism, increasing environmental justice activities and funding research into the role of protecting wildlife and wild places to prevent future pandemics.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The House today passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Included among the provisions is a requirement that the Pentagon remove Confederate names, references, and symbols from American military bases within three years. Also included are measures to safeguard public lands and Tribal sites from an expanded military bombing range in Nevada, to protect the area around the Grand Canyon from toxic uranium mining, and to expand public lands, recreation and access in California, Colorado and Washington state.
