The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) instituted a disastrous new rule today that will essentially exclude new renewable energy projects from the PJM capacity market and force ComEd customers to subsidize dirty coal and gas plants, unless Illinois acts in 2020 to prevent the rule from taking effect here. Energy experts predict the decision will cost the Midwest, Appalachia, and Mid-Atlantic regions almost $6 billion annually and increase dangerous fossil fuel emissions.

Today Puget Sound Energy (PSE) announced that they would be selling their stake in Colstrip Unit 4 to Montana-based NorthWestern Energy, which intends to run the plant into the 2040s.

The ads include a radio ad and billboard running in Luria’s district as well as online ads in McEachin’s and Spanberger’s district.

Indianapolis Power & Light (IPL) today released its plan for how the utility will generate electricity for its more than 470,000 customers over the next two decades with a proposal to retire two units at the Petersburg Super Polluter coal plant, but will keep burning coal until 2042 at the two remaining units.

Today the utility owners of the Colstrip coal plant announced that they signed a new contract for coal from the nearby Rosebud Mine through 2025. While the owners have yet to disclose the price they’re now paying for coal, it’s likely to be higher than the previous contract that expires at the end of this month, further eroding the economic viability of the aging plant.
