Just days after wildfire haze caused Detroit to experience the second worst air quality in the world, a coalition of organizations is suing the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to address another kind of traveling haze that also has roots in climate change yet pollutes our skies all year.

Washington, DC - Today, a coalition of environmental organizations filed a lawsuit against the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for failing to enforce the Regional Haze Rule required by the Clean Air Act. Despite its mandate to approve or reject state haze plans within 18 months, EPA has failed to act on Regional Haze plans submitted by Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Texas and Wisconsin.

David Tudor, CEO and General Manager of Associated Electric Cooperative Incorporated (AECI), provided testimony before the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee on the reliability of electric systems. AECI supplies 51 local electric cooperatives in Missouri, Iowa and Oklahoma while running two of the dirtiest coal plants in the country: Thomas Hill and New Madrid.
