Washington, DC – Today, Donald Trump announced that he is nominating Sean Duffy for U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary. Duffy is a former Congressman, Fox Business host, and reality TV cast member.

In response to the nomination, Sierra Club Executive Director Ben Jealous released the following statement:

“Another day, another deeply unqualified Cabinet nomination from Donald Trump – Sean Duffy has no business leading the Department of Transportation. His real-world understanding of transportation investments and economic opportunities are limited to a MTV show.

“We know our roads will never rule with Duffy at the helm. He has fought against investments in our roads and bridges – investments that create jobs and spur further economic growth —and shown a disdain for the workers who build and repair them. The role of DOT Secretary requires someone with real-world experience in transportation, an understanding of how fossil fuel vehicles pollute our communities, and a commitment to helping keep people walking, cycling, or driving safe on our roads. Donald Trump and Sean Duffy are a threat to the good paying jobs and future of America’s transportation sector.”
