Clean Energy Advocates to Host Film Screening of “King Coal”

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Community members with Safe, Affordable, Good Energy for Tennessee (SAGE TN) and Sunrise Nashville will host an exclusive showing on Thursday of the powerful documentary “King Coal” followed by an activist panel to discuss the Tennessee Valley Authority’s (TVA) proposed buildout of methane gas infrastructure.

Instead of replacing its coal plants with clean energy, the TVA plans to build more harmful gas power plants and pipelines than any other utility this decade. The screening is part of the Clean Up TVA Tour to educate and organize communities impacted by TVA’s massive gas buildout.

What:  Film screening and activist panel

When: Thursday, May 30, 7 p.m. CT

Where: Belcourt Theater, 2102 Belcourt Avenue Nashville, TN 37212 (map)

About the film: A lyrical tapestry of a place and people, “King Coal” meditates on the complex history and future of the coal industry, the communities it has shaped, and the myths it has created. Oscar-nominated filmmaker Elaine McMillion Sheldon reshapes the boundaries of documentary filmmaking in a spectacularly beautiful and deeply moving immersion into Central Appalachia where coal is not just a resource, but a way of life.
