ALBANY, NY -- Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) was awarded $249.8 million in funding through the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund’s Solar For All program. The competition, created by President Biden’s landmark Inflation Reduction Act, seeks to enable low-income and disadvantaged households across America to access the benefits of low-cost, clean solar energy—benefits that include home energy savings, energy resilience, improved air quality, wealth building, and quality jobs.

NYSERDA was one of 49 state-level awards, while six awards went to Tribes and five awards went to multistate applications. A full list of recipients of Solar For All awards can be found here. The climate law authorized $7 billion in funding for the program, but by last year’s deadline for applications, EPA had received requests totaling more than $38 billion.

In response, Allyson Samuel, Sierra Club New York Senior Field Organizer, issued the following statement:

“Today’s Solar For All award will help ensure New York meets its goals under the Climate Law while equitably transitioning to clean energy, protecting the health of our communities, creating clean energy jobs, and tackling the climate crisis. This investment is coming not a moment too soon and we look forward to working with NYSERDA to ensure that New York continues to move toward 100 percent clean energy for all.”
