Washington, D.C. – Today, the Edison Electric Institute announced Trump Administration Energy Secretary and fossil fuel executive Dan Brouillette will lead the utility lobbying association, replacing outgoing executive Tom Kuhn. This comes barely a week after EEI submitted comments attacking EPA’s recent proposal to limit carbon pollution from power plants.
In response, Sierra Club Executive Director Ben Jealous released the following statement:
“We congratulate EEI on finding such a perfect fit to lead their fossil fuel front group. From his experience pushing to expand dirty fossil fuels at the expense of communities and the climate to misusing taxpayer dollars in support of Trump's failed reelection campaign, Dan Brouillette has just the resume to help advance EEI’s regressive, dirty agenda.
“With Brouillette at the helm, it’s time for utilities who claim to be serious about providing affordable, reliable clean energy to leave this out of touch group of lobbyists once and for all and step into true climate leadership.”
