WASHINGTON, DC – On Friday, Senator Martin Heinrich and Senator Thom Tillis re-introduced the Recovering America's Wildlife Act (RAWA). This historic bipartisan bill would invest nearly $1.4 billion for states, territories, and Tribes to supplement their work in recovering, conserving, and protecting at-risk wildlife and habitat. That funding would support activities including land acquisition and habitat restoration, and create new green jobs in land management.
In response, Bradley Williams, Associate Director of Legislative and Administrative Advocacy released the following statement:
“We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to protect wildlife and address the biodiversity crisis. More than a million species are currently at risk of extinction, with habitat destruction being a main driver. We must act urgently to conserve and restore vital habitat, take on climate change, and ensure that these species and landscapes can flourish for generations to come.
“The Recovering America’s Wildlife Act presents a funding solution that matches the scale of the crisis wildlife are facing, ensuring state, local, and Tribal leaders have the ability and the tools to conserve plants and animals at risk of extinction. We applaud its reintroduction and look forward to its swift passage in the Senate."
