The Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS), Follow This, Majority Action, Sierra Club Foundation (SCF), and Stop the Money Pipeline (STMP) are hosting a virtual conversation, “JPMorgan Chase & the Climate Crisis: How 2023 Shareholder Action Can Advance Corporate Accountability,” on Wednesday, May 3, at 12pm ET.
The webinar will feature shareholder advocates, environmental justice leaders, and UCS analysts discussing corporate accountability at JPMorgan Chase. The webinar will inform shareholders and the public about important climate-related votes on the agenda at the bank's annual general meeting on May 16.
JPMorgan Chase has provided more than $434 billion in financing for fossil fuel companies since the adoption of the Paris Climate Agreement in 2015—even as climate destruction mounts and the science is clear that we must rapidly transition off fossil fuels. Fossil fuel extraction continues to be a significant contributor to environmental injustice, human rights abuses, and violations of the rights and sovereignty of Indigenous Peoples. In light of this, more than 1,300 experts recently called on JPMorgan Chase shareholders to vote in favor of a proposal calling on the bank to phase out financing for companies engaged in fossil fuel expansion.
