WASHINGTON, D.C.-- Today, the Biden Administration announced it had approved ConocoPhillip’s proposed oil and gas drilling operation on Alaska’s North Slope, commonly called the Willow project.

The Willow project would immediately be one of the largest oil and gas extraction projects on federal public lands, and it could emit an estimated 287 million tons of carbon pollution over the next 30 years, equivalent to re-activating one-third of all coal plants in the United States.

The Willow project represents a threat to wildlife, lands and waters, communities, and our climate if it is allowed to move forward.

What: Leaders from the Sierra Club, the Alaska Wilderness League, and Congress will discuss what approval of the Willow project will mean for taking on the climate crisis and where we go from here.
