WASHINGTON, D.C. -- President Biden recently announced that John Podesta will serve as Senior Advisor to the President for Clean Energy Innovation and Implementation. Current National Climate Adviser Gina McCarthy will step down from her position, and Ali Zaidi will be promoted to Assistant to the President and National Climate Advisor.

In response, Sierra Club President Ramon Cruz released the following statement:

“We look forward to working alongside John Podesta and the rest of the Biden Administration to ensure the Inflation Reduction Act’s investments in climate, justice, and jobs are implemented fairly and equitably. He is a longtime and experienced advocate for climate and clean energy and will be a crucial asset to the administration.

“Gina McCarthy’s leadership has profoundly impacted the country’s fight against the climate crisis. Without her tireless efforts, the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act would not have been possible. We are excited to continue this progress with Ali Zaidi on the journey to a 100% clean energy future.”
