SHARM EL-SHEIKH -- Today, coinciding with the third day of COP27, the White House released two reports on advancing nature-based solutions to address climate change. The first is the Nature-Based Solutions Roadmap, which outlines recommendations for America to employ nature-based solutions in addressing the climate crisis, nature loss, and inequity.

The Roadmap builds upon the Executive Order that President Biden released on Earth Day, and focuses on mitigation and adaptation to address the climate crisis. This announcement focuses on five strategic areas of action: updating policies, unlocking funding, leading with federal facilities and assets, training the nature-based solutions workforce, and prioritizing research and knowledge.

In addition to the Roadmap, the Administration released The Nature-Based Solutions Resource Guide: Compendium of Federal Examples, Guidance, Resource Documents, Tools and Technical Assistance, a companion resource guide with examples of nature-based solutions the Biden Administration has already implemented.

In response, Sierra Club President Ramon Cruz released the following statement:

If we are to leave behind a livable planet for the next generation, we must continue to support policies that protect the lands and waters we depend on and harness our natural world in the global fight against climate change. The intersecting climate and biodiversity crises know no borders, and this Roadmap highlights the way the US can, and must, be a global leader in addressing our changing climate.”
