Washington, DC — La Comisión sobre el 6 de Enero celebró hoy su última audiencia para investigar la insurrección de Donald Trump y la conspiración criminal para derrocar una elección libre y justa.
La Comisión ha celebrado ocho audiencias desde junio, centrándose en todos los aspectos que condujeron al 6 de enero en el Capitolio. La audiencia de hoy aportó más evidencias sobre una conspiración criminal y resumió todos los hechos claves y pruebas revelados por la Comisión previamente. La Comisión también aprobó hoy citar a declarar a Trump.
Una nueva encuesta de Navigator publicada hoy revela que tres de cada cinco estadounidenses apoyan la investigación congresional sobre la insurrección. También hay una consistente oposición bipartidista a los actos de los insurrectos, incluyendo casi tres de cada cuatro que se oponen a los actos de los seguidores de Trump el 6 de enero.
Según el Centro sobre Democracia de Estados Unidos, desde principios de 2022, 17 estados han implantado leyes de supresión del votante que predominantemente afectan a comunidades de bajos ingresos y de color. Sierra Club Statement On Final January 6 Congressional Hearing
WASHINGTON, DC -- Today, the January 6 House Select Committee held its final hearing to investigate Trump’s insurrection and the criminal conspiracy to overturn a free and fair election. The Committee has held eight hearings since June, focusing on all aspects of the lead-up to January 6 and the events at the Capitol that day.
Today’s hearing provided new evidence of that criminal conspiracy and recapped all of the key facts and evidence uncovered by the committee and in previous hearings. The Committee also unanimously voted during the hearing to subpoena Donald Trump.
A new Navigator poll released today found three in five Americans support the House’s investigation into the insurrection. There is also consistent bipartisan opposition to the actions of the rioters, with almost three in four Americans opposing the actions of the Trump supporters on January 6.
According to the States United Democracy Center, since the beginning of 2022, 17 states have enacted election interference laws that predominantly target voters in low-income communities and communities of color. These laws are on top of the more than 400 anti-democracy bills proposed across the country - in nearly every state - in 2021, all of which would roll back common-sense voting protections and block everyday people from the ballot box.
In response, Sierra Club President Ramon Cruz issued the following statement:
“The Sierra Club thanks the bipartisan House Select Committee members for their continued commitment to investigating one of the darkest days in our country’s history. On January 6, 2021, we came closer than ever before to ending our nation’s centuries-long experiment with democracy.
“Across the country, we’re still seeing an unprecedented number of anti-voter and anti-democracy bills filed in nearly every state. That’s why the Sierra Club continues to call on Congress and President Biden to use every tool at their disposal -- including signing additional executive orders and passing critical legislation like the Freedom to Vote Act, and restoring and expanding the Voting Rights Act of 1965 -- to help strengthen and solidify our voting rights and our democracy.
“Our ability to tackle the climate crisis, advance environmental justice, and protect frontline communities from pollution all depend on a strong, well-functioning democracy where every eligible person has fair and equitable access to the ballot box. President Biden and Congress must take action now to protect those rights for all of us and for all generations to come.”
