WASHINGTON, DC -- Yesterday, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson was officially sworn in as the newest Associate Justice of the Supreme Court. Justice Jackson was confirmed by a bipartisan Senate vote in April and is the first Black woman to be nominated and confirmed to the U.S. Supreme Court.
In response, Sierra Club Director of Policy, Advocacy, and Legal, Leslie Fields issued the following statement:
“The Sierra Club rejoices as Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson officially takes the bench on the Supreme Court. Justice Jackson is joining the Court at a tumultuous time, but we are confident that she will exemplify the best of what a Justice should be by recognizing the government’s obligation to protect public health and the environment, protecting the public’s right to access the courts to hold government and industries accountable, and clearly distinguishing between facts and politics. Justice Jackson has a strong record, a breadth of experience, and a well-respected jurisprudence that will serve her well during her tenure on the Supreme Court.”
