Corte Federal Restaura Cruciales Protecciones de la Ley de Especies en Peligro

Washington, DC — En una victoria para la protección y conservación de la vida silvestre, una corte federal de distrito restauró hoy una amplia variedad de protecciones de la Ley de Especies en Peligro a cientos de especies y su hábitats. 

 

En 2021, la administración Trump devolvió voluntariamente a una corte inferior una demanda presentada por Earthjustice en nombre del Center for Biological Diversity, Defenders of Wildlife, Sierra Club, Natural Resources Defense Council, National Parks Conservation Association, Wild Earth Guardians, y Humane Society of the United States en contra regulaciones dañinas puestas en práctica por dicha administración en 2019. 

 

Los grupos de conservación confrontaron legalmente las reglas de la administración Trump por socavar las protecciones a especies y sus hábitats en peligro, y a esta demanda se unieron estados liderados por California y un grupo de protección de los animales.

 

 

“Las debilitaciones de las regulaciones de la Ley de Especies en Peligro fueron ilegales y un embrollo irracional que socavó cruciales protecciones de la vida silvestre. En medio de una crisis de extinción global, la decisión de anular las reglas ayudará a asegurar que especies en peligro reciban las protecciones que necesitan desesperadamente”.

Federal Court Restores Critical Endangered Species Act Protections

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, in a win for wildlife protection and conservation, a federal district court restored comprehensive Endangered Species Act regulatory protections to hundreds of species and the places they call home.  

The Trump administration  filed a voluntary remand motion in December 2021 in response to a lawsuit filed by Earthjustice on behalf of the Center for Biological Diversity, Defenders of Wildlife, Sierra Club, NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council), National Parks Conservation Association, Wild Earth Guardians, and the Humane Society of the United States challenging harmful rules put in place by that administration in 2019. 

Conservation groups challenged the Trump administration rules for undermining protections for imperiled species and habitat necessary for their survival, and their lawsuit was joined by a group of states, led by California, and an animal welfare group 

In response, Sierra Club attorney Karimah Schoenhut issued the following statement:

"The 2019 rollbacks to the ESA regulations were an unlawful and irrational mess that undermined critical protections for wildlife. In the midst of a global extinction crisis, the court's decision to vacate the rules will help ensure that imperiled species receive the protections they desperately need."
