WASHINGTON, DC -- Late last night, Politico published a draft opinion from the Supreme Court that would, if adopted by a majority of the Justices, overturn a long-held precedent in Roe v. Wade. The final decision is expected to be released before the end of the Court’s term this summer.
In response, Sierra Club Managing Director Eva Hernandez-Simmons issued the following statement:
“The Sierra Club supports every person’s right to self-determination over reproductive health. Abortions are health care and a fundamental constitutional right. If the Court’s final decision adopts the main points of the leaked draft, the Supreme Court will have neglected its responsibility to respect precedent, uphold the Constitution, and protect the rights guaranteed therein for all people who call this country home.
“Every person in this country deserves the right to live in healthy and safe communities with access to clean air, clean water, and healthcare. The Sierra Club is committed to rising with our allies to continue the fight to ensure reproductive justice for all, no matter the final outcome of the Supreme Court decision.”
