MARYLAND - Today, Governor Hogan announced he would let the Maryland Legislature passed climate solutions bill to become law. SB 528 will cut carbon pollution by 60% by 2031, and begin to reduce pollution from buildings and homes by shifting away from using fossil fuels for heating.
Over 50 public health, environmental, faith, labor, and economic justice organizations have come together under the umbrella of Climate Partners to advocate for strong climate legislation in Maryland. SB528 was sponsored by Senator Paul Pinsky.
In response, Josh Tulkin, Director of Sierra Club's Maryland Chapter, released the following statement:
“Climate solutions are good for our environment, our health, and our wallets. With gas prices skyrocketing, this is a critical time for Maryland to invest in a clean energy future, to help Marylanders reduce their reliance on fossil fuels for heating and cooking. We commend the general assembly for passing the Climate Solutions Now Act and the Governor for letting it go into law.”
