Washington, DC – Today, in a 4 to 1 vote, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) put forth a new proposal to improve the transmission planning and cost allocation requirements, critical steps to unleashing clean energy, improving the resilience of the power grid, and saving consumers money. FERC will be accepting comments on the proposal 75 days from the date of publication in the Federal Register.
In response, Sierra Club Senior Attorney Casey Roberts released the following statement:
“The Sierra Club applauds FERC for initiating this rulemaking, which lays the foundation for an efficient transmission network built on clean energy, not fossil fuels.
“We must find better ways to integrate low-cost renewable energy on the grid, and today’s proposal helps achieve that goal by improving the planning process and cost allocation requirements for new transmission.
“We look forward to reviewing the proposal and participating in the comment period to ensure it fully engages states and stakeholders in decision-making, prepares communities for the overall electrification of our economy, protects consumers, and enhances grid reliability.”
