NEW ORLEANS -- The Sierra Club’s International Climate and Policy Campaign is joining with the #Blairisms for a series of conversations about climate justice and the African Diaspora leading up to the 27th UN Climate Conference or Conference of Parties (COP).

This partnership brings together the two organizations for a series of engaging conversations around global climate justice and the African Diaspora. Conversations will include grassroots leaders in Africa working in their communities to combat the climate crisis -- including deCOALinize Kenya, the Lekeh Development Foundation, and more--  and the connection between their work and the African Diaspora.

“We take being #BrandActivists very seriously and we’re extremely grateful to be able to connect our community with the Sierra Club,” said Blair Dottin-Haley of the #BLAIRISMS. “We created the #BLAIRISMS to be a platform that raises awareness of the issues that impact marginalized people and that includes environmental justice issues in Africa that cross continents and connect all of our communities.”

“As the world prepares for the next UN Climate Conference, the issues confronting Africa must be at the center of the conversation,” said Cherelle Blazer, Senior Director of the Sierra Club’s International Climate and Policy Campaign. “The climate crisis, and the racist system that underpins it, are problems that extend across borders. To solve these global crises, we need global movements led by the Black communities on their frontlines.”

The February conversation featured the #Blairisms’ Blair and Brandon Dottin-Haley, Sierra Club’s Cherelle Blazer, Spoken Word Artist Sunni Patterson, and special guest Tarriona “Tank” Ball of Tank and the Bangas. Watch the conversation here.
