WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Sierra Club President Ramón Cruz will join representatives and supporters from environmental and faith organizations representing millions of people to deliver over 200,000 comments to EPA Administrator Michael Regan urging the Environmental Protection Agency to adopt the strongest rule possible for federal clean car standards.
At 3 pm ET in front of the EPA, speakers from the Sierra Club, Moms Clean Air Force, Hip Hop Caucus, Interfaith Power and Light, the Natural Resources Defense Council and the League of Conservation Voters will join together to symbolically deliver the comments and remark on the significance of a strong rule for climate action, racial justice, and public health.
On the heels of a two-day virtual EPA hearing last month, over 20,000 Sierra Club supporters sent letters to the EPA urging a strong rule with no loopholes for automakers.
The clean car standards for light-duty cars and trucks must deliver real-world benefits and urgently recover the crucial ground lost during the Trump administration, and put the nation on a path to 100 percent new electric vehicle sales by 2035.
“It is critical for the EPA to listen to the hundreds of thousands of people urging the agency to deliver a strong clean cars rule for our health and our climate,” said Sierra Club President Ramón Cruz.
“For years, Donald Trump attacked our nation’s strongest climate policy - it’s time to get it back and go further than ever before. Cars and light-duty trucks are also a major source of air pollution that predominantly harms low-income communities and communities of color.”
"Now is the time for the EPA to move forward with a stringent standard without automaker loopholes, one that delivers real emissions reductions and cleaner air for families across the nation.”
