Declaración sobre Aprobación de la Cámara Baja de la Resolución Presupuestaria de $3,5 Billones (Trillions)

Washington, DC — La Cámara de Representantes aprobó hoy una resolución presupuestaria de $3,5 billones (trillions), un paso crucial para proveer audaces inversiones que necesitan las comunidades del país. 

 

El Sierra Club enfatiza que cualquier votación sobre la propuesta bipartidista de infraestructura tiene que ser precedida de la aprobación de una propuesta de reconciliación.

 

Mientras las comisiones parlamentarias empiezan a detallar las inversiones en el proyecto presupuestario de reconciliación, el Sierra Club urge a los legisladores a que incrementen la financiación de la acción climática, la justicia ambiental y otros aspectos que han quedado penosamente financiados u olvidados en la propuesta bipartidista de infraestructura.

“Esta propuesta presupuestaria de reconciliación es una oportunidad generacional para lograr inversiones audaces en la acción climática que nos permitan atacar la crisis climática, crear millones de empleos bien pagados, y combatir contra las injusticias económicas, raciales, ambientales y de género. Esta es nuestra ventana para lograr metas de un 100% de energía limpia por medio de incentivos fiscales y un programa de pagos a la energía limpia, lograr inversiones fundamentales en vehículos y transporte público eléctricos, y reemplazar por completo las tuberías de plomo en el país.

 

“La versión de propuesta de infraestructura bipartidista aprobada por el Senado a principios de mes fracasa en ofrecer las inversiones que tan desesperadamente necesitan las comunidades de todo el país. Que quede claro: la propuesta bipartidista tiene que verse complementada por la totalidad de las inversiones de reconciliación autorizadas por el Congreso en su resolución bicameral de $3,5 billones (tillions).

 

“El Sierra Club enfatiza que cualquier votación en la propuesta bipartidista tiene que verse precedida de la aprobación de la propuesta de reconciliación. Mientras las inundaciones en el sureste y los incendios en el oeste destruyen vidas, hogares y comercios, y mientras las advertencias del Panel Intergubernamental sobre Cambio Climático nos lo dejan claro, es esencial que el Congreso aproveche esta histórica oportunidad para hacer inversiones realmente significativas en nuestro futuro”.

Statement on House Passage of $3.5 Trillion Budget Resolution
ANY VOTE ON BIPARTISAN INFRASTRUCTURE DEAL MUST BE PRECEDED BY PASSAGE OF RECONCILIATION BILL

WASHINGTON, DC -- This afternoon, the House passed a $3.5 trillion budget resolution, a crucial step toward delivering bold investments at the scale of the crises our communities face. Sierra Club emphasizes that any vote on the bipartisan infrastructure proposal must be preceded by passage of the reconciliation bill.

As Congressional committees begin to detail the investments in the budget reconciliation bill, the Sierra Club urges increased funding for climate action, environmental justice, and other items that are critically underfunded or missing from the bipartisan infrastructure deal.

In response, Sierra Club Deputy Legislative Director Kirin Kennedy released the following statement:

“This budget reconciliation bill is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to deliver transformational investments in climate action and infrastructure that will enable us to effectively tackle the climate crisis, create millions of family-sustaining jobs, and fight economic, racial, environmental, and gender injustice. This is our window to finally pass policies to reach 100% clean energy through tax incentives and a clean energy payment program, implement major new electric vehicle and transit investments, create a Civilian Climate Corps, eliminate fossil fuel subsidies, and fully replace 100% of lead pipes. 

“The bipartisan infrastructure bill passed by the Senate earlier this month falls far short of providing the investments desperately needed in communities across the country. So let’s be clear: The bipartisan bill must be complemented by the full level of reconciliation investments authorized by the Congress in its joint $3.5 trillion budget resolution. 

“Sierra Club emphasizes that any vote on the bipartisan proposal must be preceded by passage of the reconciliation bill. As flooding in the Southeast and wildfires in the West destroy lives, homes, and businesses, and as warnings from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change make clear, it’s essential that Congress seize this historic chance to make truly significant investments in our future.”
