WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Yesterday, the Senate confirmed Todd Kim, President Biden’s nominee for Assistant Attorney General to head the Environment and Natural Resources Division at the U.S. Department of Justice. Mr. Kim previously served for seven years as an appellate attorney with the Environment and Natural Resources Division of the Department of Justice.

As Assistant Attorney General, Kim will play a major role in enforcing President Biden’s ambitious environmental agenda by upholding critical safeguards for our natural resources, endangered species, clean air and water, and public lands. He will also handle government cases involving tribal sovereignty.

In response, National Director of Sierra Club’s Policy, Advocacy, and Legal Leslie Fields issued the following statement:

“The Sierra Club applauds the Senate’s confirmation of Todd Kim, a proven environmental leader, for Assistant Attorney General. Kim’s vast experience and history defending and protecting communities and the environment as an appellate attorney in the Energy and Natural Resources Division will serve him well as he works to hold corporate polluters accountable to the Biden Administration’s bold and ambitious environmental agenda.

“We can no longer let corporate polluters off the hook while communities’ access to clean air, clean water, and a healthy environment is under unprecedented threat. As we urgently act to restore and advance pollution limits, protect public lands and water, and safeguard the rights of communities most impacted by the climate crisis, the Sierra Club looks forward to having an ally in Assistant Attorney General Kim.”
