Washington, DC— The Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources will vote next week on the confirmation of Tracy Stone-Manning as Director of the Bureau of Land Management. Last month, more than 100 local and national conservation organizations sent a letter to the Senate urging support for her confirmation. Read the letter here, and watch the live stream of the vote here.

Ahead of the vote, Athan Manuel, Director of Sierra Club’s Lands Protection Program, released the following statement:

“A coalition builder and someone deeply committed to protecting nature for people today and future generations, Tracy Stone-Manning is eminently qualified to lead the Bureau of Land Management.

“Right now, we must cultivate resilience in the face of the increasing and varied consequences of the climate and extinction crises. The way we manage public lands can help us foster healthy communities, increase access to the outdoors for all, protect critical habitat, and stabilize the climate.

“The choices we make now will shape our society’s direction and the health of our planet for decades to come. We trust Tracy Stone-Manning will make protecting public lands and fighting the climate crisis a priority at the Bureau of Land Management. We urge the Senate to urgently confirm her.”
