In Saying No To Senate Republicans, President Biden Says Yes To Action Needed
Washington, DC -- Today, President Biden ended negotiations with Senate Republicans on crafting an infrastructure package that meets the needs of the people and country.
In response, Sierra Club Legislative Director Melinda Pierce released the following statement:
“Senate Republicans’ inability to act in anything other than their own self-interests proved to be their undoing yet again. Rather than meet the needs and demands of the people they are elected to represent, Republicans wasted valuable time that should have been spent addressing the interconnected crises we have been grappling with. Once more, Senate Republicans have shown they are only interested in running out the clock when Democrats are in power.
“Thankfully, in saying ‘no’ to Senate Republicans’ nonsense, President Biden has said ‘yes’ to action on the climate crisis, 'yes' to action on economic disparity, yes to action on systemic racism, and 'yes' to the American people crying out for their government to invest in them.
“Congressional Democrats cannot waste another second. It’s time to build on the vision President Biden laid out in the American Jobs and American Families plans and craft a big and bold infrastructure package that prioritizes frontline communities, creates millions of family-sustaining jobs, cuts climate pollution in half by 2030, and advances gender, environmental, Indigenous, economic, and racial justice. Let’s get to work!”
