Washington, D.C. -- Today, the White House announced newly appointed members of the White House Environmental Justice Advisory Council. The Advisory Council was announced as part of Executive Order 14008 in January, and the Biden administration has moved quickly to appoint the members of the council. The Advisory Council will provide recommendations to the White House Environmental Justice Interagency Council, also established by executive order, on how to increase efforts to address current and historic environmental injustice.

In response, Sierra Club’s National Director of Policy Advocacy and Legal,  Leslie Fields, issued the following statement:

“President Biden continues to demonstrate his commitment to environmental justice by making his administration directly accountable to communities impacted by pollution and climate chaos. The newly appointed members of the White House Environmental Justice Advisory Council will be positioned to advise not only EPA, but every federal agency, through their work with White House Environmental Justice Interagency Council. This unprecedented step to center the voices of environmental justice communities will help to ensure that all White House climate and environmental justice policy is designed with impacted communities in mind.”
