La Cámara de Representantes Aprueba Amplias Protecciones para Terrenos y Vías Acuáticas

Washington, DC — La Cámara de Representantes aprobó hoy la Ley de Protección de la Naturaleza y los Terrenos Públicos en una votación de 227 a favor y 200 en contra. 

 

Este conjunto de proyectos de ley sobre conservación protegerá colectivamente 2,7 millones de acres de naturaleza, vías acuáticas, espacios verdes y áreas de recreo por todo el país. “La Ley de Protección de la Naturaleza y los Terrenos Públicos audazmente preserva millones de acres de terrenos por todo el país para ayudarnos a combatir la crisis climática. Esta legislación representa años de coordinación de grupos locales y tribales para proteger hermosos parajes, vías acuáticas y espacios verdes —prueba evidente de la importancia de la preservación por parte de grupos comunitarios. 

 

“Su aprobación en la Cámara Baja nos acerca a proteger el 30% de los terrenos y vías acuáticas del país para el año 2030 y así prevenir las peores consecuencias de la crisis climática y la extinción de especies. Urgimos al Senado a actuar con premura para aprobar estas salvaguardas y proveer beneficios inconmensurables a todas las comunidades y estabilidad climática, y promocionar el acceso equitativo a la naturaleza y sus beneficios a generaciones futuras”.

House Passes Sweeping Lands and Waters Protections
Conservation package sets United States on path to protect 30 by 30

Washington, D.C.— Today, the US House of Representatives passed the Protecting America’s Wilderness and Public Lands Act in a 227-200 vote— a package of conservation bills that will collectively protect 2.7 million acres of wild lands, waters, green space and recreation areas across the country. In response to the passage, Athan Manuel, Director of the Sierra Club’s Lands Protection Program, released the following statement: 

“The Protecting America’s Wilderness and Public Lands Act boldly conserves millions of acres of land across the country to help us fight the climate crisis. This legislation represents years of local and Tribal coordination to protect beloved landscapes, waters and green spaces— showcasing the success and importance of community-driven conservation.

“Its passage in the House moves us closer to protecting 30% of lands and waters by 2030 to prevent the worst of the climate and extinction crises. We urge swift action by the Senate to pass these safeguards and provide immeasurable benefits to all communities, climate stability and promote equitable access to the outdoors and the benefits of nature for generations to come."
