El Presidente Biden Firma Audaces Ordenes Ejecutivas sobre Acción Climática

Washington, DC — El Presidente Biden firmó hoy una serie de órdenes ejecutivas y tomó otras decisiones, dando así una barrida completa al legado de la administración Trump y marcando el principio del proceso de atacar de lleno la crisis climática. 

 

Además de unirse de nuevo a la comunidad internacional reintegrando a Estados Unidos en el Acuerdo de París y rechazando el oleoducto Keystone XL, otras varias audaces órdenes ejecutivas que impactan a toda su administración incluyen:

 

• Revisar y resolver decisiones antiambientales dañinas de la administración Trump.
• Instruir a agencias federales para que empiece un proceso de reducción de la contaminación y salvaguardar a las comunidades contra la contaminación de metano.
• Restablecer el Grupo Interdepartamental de Trabajo sobre el Costo Social de los Gases de Efecto Invernadero y establecer el costo social de la contaminación de carbono, incluyendo los riesgos climáticos, de justicia ambiental y equidad intergeneracional.

Como respuesta, la directora legislativa del Sierra Club, Melinda Pierce, emitió la siguiente declaración:

“Qué increíble soplo de aire fresco es que el Presidente Biden ya esté cumpliendo sus promesas de actuar inmediatamente contra la crisis climática. “Hoy celebramos estas decisiones mientras también sabemos que el Presidente Biden y su administración se mantendrán centrados en la urgente necesidad de combatir la crisis climática, porque nuestras decisiones van a determinar el futuro de la sociedad y la salud del planeta en las décadas y siglos venideros”.

STATEMENT: President Biden Signs Bold Executive Orders on Climate Action 
Sierra Club Praises New Administration for Whole of Government Approach 

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, President Biden is signing a series of executive orders and actions that immediately launch a sweeping rebuke of the Trump administration and begin the process of tackling the climate crisis. In addition to bringing the United States back into the international community by re-joining the Paris Agreement and rejecting the Keystone XL pipeline, a slew of other strong executive actions spanning the whole of government includes:

• Reviewing and resolving harmful anti-environmental actions taken by the Trump Administration. 
• Directing federal agencies to begin a process to cut pollution and safeguard communities from methane 
• Re-establishing the Interagency Working Group on the Social Cost of Greenhouse Gases (GHG) and directing the issuance of an interim social cost of carbon to account for the full costs of emissions, including climate risk, environmental justice and intergenerational equity

“What an incredible breath of fresh air that President Biden is already delivering on his promise to prioritize immediate executive action to tackle the climate crisis on day one. These actions are rooted in the rightful recognition of the fact that our planet, our lands, our air, our water, and our communities do not belong to corporations, lobbyists, or government institutions--they belong to us, the people, and protecting them is essential.

“Today we celebrate these actions while we also know that President Biden and his administration will maintain their focus on the urgent need to tackle the climate crisis, because the choices we make together now will shape our society’s direction and the health of our planet for decades and centuries to come.”
