Washington, DC -- After taking the oath of office, President Joe Biden will take swift action on the climate crisis, including executing a moratorium on all oil and gas operations in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Just yesterday, the Trump Administration continued their slapdash efforts to sell off the Refuge by issuing leases, but that effort, like the majority of Trump’s efforts, is being reversed.
In response, Sierra Club Lands, Water, Wildlife Campaign Director Dan Ritzman released the following statement:
“Just as the American electorate rejected Donald Trump, it also rejected his efforts to sell out the Arctic Refuge. Thankfully, President Biden will waste no time in keeping his word to protect the Refuge, prioritizing climate, wildlife, and Indigenous rights over corporate polluters’ profits. We look forward to working with the Biden Administration to make sure today’s action to protect the Arctic Refuge becomes permanent.”
