Washington, DC -- Yesterday, President Joe Biden announced immediate action to ensure the federal government is investing U.S. taxpayer dollars to support U.S. jobs. This executive order strengthens existing Buy American rules by closing loopholes to direct investment to domestic manufacturers and service providers.
In response, Sierra Club Living Economy Program Director Ben Beachy released the following statement:
“The Sierra Club applauds this action to close loopholes that allowed companies to get taxpayer dollars for government contracts while outsourcing production to countries with weaker labor and environmental standards. This executive order will help to ensure that investments in the growing clean energy economy support family-sustaining jobs and manufacturing renewal. The Sierra Club believes that each country should have the ability to direct investments to domestic firms to ensure that workers capture the gains of the transition to a clean energy economy.”
