Boston, MA -- Tonight, Senator Ed Markey won the Massachusetts Democratic senate primary. The Sierra Club endorsed the Senator last September, citing his decades of leadership in Congress fighting to tackle the climate crisis, advance clean energy, and protect public lands, including co-authoring both the American Clean Energy Security Act and the Green New Deal joint resolution.

To assist in re-electing Senator Markey, the Sierra Club Political Committee contributed financially to his campaign and mobilized its members and supporters throughout the state to connect with voters and turn them out.

In response, Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune and Sierra Club Massachusetts Director Deb Pasternak released the following statement:

“For more than four decades, the Sierra Club and climate activists across the country have had perhaps no greater friend than Senator Markey, and we are proud to congratulate him on his victory this evening. We look forward to continuing our joint efforts to advance the bold and necessary solutions to tackle the climate crisis.”
