Greenhouse Gaslighting Doesn’t Change Trump’s Status as the Worst President Ever for the Environment and Climate
Jupiter, FL -- Today, Donald Trump lied on his environmental and conservation record. In 2017, Trump’s administration released its five year offshore drilling plan, which included opening Florida’s coastline to drilling. Separately, Trump’s original FY2020 budget proposal set aside only $63 million for Everglades restoration.
Trump announced he is extending the moratorium by Presidential Memorandum, which former-President Obama used to protect parts of the Atlantic and Arctic oceans from drilling and the Trump Administration has since sought to overturn. In June, it was reported that Trump’s Interior Department was preparing to allow drilling off of Florida’s coast, but only after the November election to avoid political blowback
In response, Sierra Club Political Director Ariel Hayes released the following statement:
“Donald Trump is fooling himself if he believes a single speech will stem the rising tide sinking his campaign. Failing to adequately fund Everglades restoration, attempting to sell off our waters to corporate polluters, and rolling back more than 100 environmental protections doesn’t make you anything other than the worst president ever for the environment and climate. Voters in Florida and across the country have watched Trump achieve this status for nearly four years, and no amount of greenhouse gaslighting will change that.”
