La Corte Suprema Dicta en Favor de los Beneficiarios de DACA, en Decisión Que Alivia a los Jóvenes Inmigrantes y Sus Familias

 Washington, DC — La Corte Suprema anunció hoy su dictamen (en una votación de 5 a 4) sobre el programa de Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) por el que considera arbitraria y caprichosa la decisión de la administración Trump de rescindir dicho programa migratorio.

La Coalición Home Is Here (nuestro hogar está aquí) —en representación de más de 100 organizaciones de todo el país— emitió la siguiente declaración:

“La victoria de hoy surge cuando las comunidades directamente impactadas exigen cambios. La Corte Suprema se puso del lado del pueblo estadounidense —el cual abrumadoramente apoya el programa DACA— y rechazó la agenda divisoria y llena de odio de Trump. Esta decisión ayudará a proteger las vidas de casi 700.000 beneficiarios de DACA y sus familias de la crueldad de Trump, por ahora.

Desde que Trump llegó al poder y rescindió DACA en septiembre de 2017, los jóvenes inmigrantes, sus familias y aliados de todo el país han luchado por proteger DACA. Mientras que esta decisión ofrece un alivio necesario a los beneficiarios y sus familias, la administración sigue atacando a los inmigrantes. La Coalición Home Is Here (nuestro hogar está aquí) urge a Trump a comprometerse a respetar la decisión de la Corte Suprema y a no tratar de acabar con este programa de nuevo. También tiene que ordenar a USCIS no compartir información con ICE sobre los beneficiarios de DACA y sus familias. La administración Trump ha dejado claro que quiere deportar a la mayor cantidad de personas posible, transfiriendo dinero de varias agencias gubernamentales a ICE para cumplir con su agenda de deportaciones masivas. 

Mientras celebramos la noticia, también reconocemos que queda mucha lucha por delante. Esta decisión surge tras semanas de valientes protestas organizadas por afroamericanos y sus aliados en todo el país para exigir el fin de la brutalidad policial, y la supremacía blanca y llamados a desfinanciar a las fuerzas policiales. Estamos comprometidos a luchar contra el sistema que está diseñado para perseguir, detener y deportar a inmigrantes que está arraigado en el racismo contra afroamericanos y la supremacía blanca. 

La lucha para acabar con la supremacía blanca y defender las vidas negras y por defender las protecciones de todos los inmigrantes es una que tenemos que hacer juntos”.

Supreme Court Sides with DACA Recipients, Providing Relief for Immigrant Youth and Their Families

Washington, D.C. — Today, the Supreme Court announced a 5-4 ruling on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program cases, ruling that Trump’s decision to rescind the DACA program was arbitrary and capricious. 

The Home Is Here Coalition – representing 100+ organizations across the country – released the following statement: 

“Today’s win is what happens when directly impacted communities demand change. The Supreme Court sided with the American people - who overwhelmingly support the DACA program - and they rejected Trump’s divisive and hate-filled agenda. This decision will help protect the lives of nearly 700,000 current DACA recipients and their families from Trump’s cruelty — for now. 

Since Trump took office and rescinded DACA in September of 2017, immigrant youth, their families and allies across the country have been fighting to protect DACA. While this decision gives needed relief for DACA recipients and their families, immigrants are still under attack by this administration. The Home is Here coalition calls on Trump to commit to respecting the decision of the Supreme Court and not trying to end the program again. He must also instruct USCIS not to share information with ICE about DACA recipients and their families. The Trump administration has made it clear they want to deport as many people as possible, moving money from various government agencies to ICE to carry out their mass deportation agenda.  

As we celebrate today,  we also acknowledge how much fighting for change there is still to do. This decision follows weeks of courageous organizing and protests from Black people and allies across the country to demand an end to police brutality, white supremacy and a call to defund the police. We are committed to fight against the systems that are built to target, detain and deport immigrants and which are rooted in the systems of anti-Black racism and white supremacy. 

The fight to end white supremacy and advocate for Black lives, and for protections of all immigrants is one we must do together.”
