Oakland, CA -- Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune released the following statement on the murder of Breonna Taylor.
“In the midst of a public health pandemic that is threatening the well-being and prosperity of our communities, we should be honoring and protecting those on the frontlines, not senselessly murdering them. Breonna Taylor was not only innocent, she was selflessly working to keep our communities healthy and thriving. As an EMT worker, she pledged to shield our neighborhoods from disease and disruption so that we can all live in healthier and more sustainable communities.
“The Sierra Club refuses to idly stand by as our Black and Brown neighbors and friends are massacred by racist policing and we will continue to stand in solidarity with our partners fighting for a more equitable and just planet.”
